What is HKGIX?

HKGIX is a IXP recently created in 2023. It provides a physical Ethernet switched infrastructure to ISPs and internet related business companies to exchange IP traffic.

Why is peering free?

HKGIX has been created to help internet development and traffic optimization in the Hong Kong area. Peering is free thanks to our supporters who continue to provide us with the services, hardware and labor that we need to continue servicing our peers.

Why is the name HKGIX?

HKG is the IATA Code taken from ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 and HKIA, IX is an acronym for Internet eXchange.

What is the relationship with HKIX?

We are not related in any way, we are different IXP.

Who can join HKGIX?

Any legal entity with a valid ASN able to connect is welcome at HKGIX.

Can HKGIX be connected via tunnel or VPN?

No. HKGIX only supports connections through physical mediums like fiber optic or cable.

Does HKGIX support Jumbo Frames?

Yes. HKGIX entire IXP is Jumbo Frames capable to allow higher data throughput.

Why are there participants with only IPv6 address allocation?

IPv4 addresses are scarce and limited, we do not allocate IPv4 addresses to networks that are IPv6-only.
